STUDY: LAST-MINUTE-REISEN 2007 (LAST MINUTE TRIPS 2007)

Just gone on leave!
Last-minute-boom again in 2007

Study: Last-Minute-Reisen 2007 In 2007 last-minute travelling was booming again. 19.60 m Germans travelled last-minute spending 12.1 bn euros for it. These are the core results of the representative survey established yearly by Ulysses-Web-Tourism, institute for market research. At the end of 2007 for this purpose 1.037 persons representatively standing for the German population, from the age of fourteen years on, were questioned. The study repeatedly focused on last-minute travel behaviour of Germans.

Compared to last year the number of last-minute trips rose by around 39%, in particular due to notably low prices as well as convenient dates of public holidays. Overall travel destinations close to Germany as much as the Mediterranean area profit from spontaneously organized holidays. 65% of all last-minute trips led to the Mediterranean Sea. This fact also points out that last-minute holidays are strongly targeted on the items sun, beach and sea. Unlike the past years women more frequently spontaneously went on holidays than men. In 2008 the number of spontaneously travelling people should all in all rise again, due to the Germans being particularly fond of travelling since a long time. This also shows the fact that, compared to 2006, the average travelling time has again increased, now lasting almost nine days. But many people like their travel destination to remain open until late.
On average Germans spent almost 500 euros for their last-minute holiday, which is around 3% more than in 2006, but particularly concerning travelling expenses clear differences between countries appear. There are also clear differences between genders. Compared to the past years in 2007 more women than men preferred to travel spontaneously and at the same time they favoured different destinations.

Travelled last minute trips of Germans in 2007 (men/women)

Therefore in 2007 the last-minute frequency was 1.25. This means that in 2007 on average each last-minute traveller made 1.25 last minute trips. The last-minute intensity was 30.18%, namely 30.18 % of the Germans, from the age of fourteen years on, have travelled last-minute.
