With every year the destination Germany attracts more foreign tourists. In 2006 all in all 23.6 m visitors from all over the world travelled to this country, which is
an increase of 36% in comparison to the year 2003. Tourists spent all in all about 26.1 m Euros during their visit. This means an increase of
54% of touristic income compared to 2003 and this increase is significantly higher than the one of the number of
tourists.
Most of the tourists are still from Europe: For years the total percentage of European tourists constantly is
74%, only the percentage of every single country varies a bit. In 2006 the Dutch guests were by far the most numerous group of Germany's visitors. (8.8 m). The British (4.5 m), the Swiss (3.5 m) and the Italians (2.9 m) don't follow before quite a gap. Other important source markets are America and Asia, whereas visitors from Australia and Africa only make up a very small percentage of the total market. To know the desires and needs of European tourists is therefore an important factor of success for companies that offer touristic services inland. But it is also decisively important to recognize
future potentials and chances of incoming tourism from other parts of the world and to take relevant steps. In this context the
new middle classes of economically prosperous countries as China,
Russia and India are often stated to be an important touristic potential. In fact in these countries broad wealthy and well-educated classes are formed, that consequently have
financial independence for overseas trips. But are these changes also reflected in the German incoming tourism? The changes of guest numbers from Asia and Russia show that the suppliers of touristic services in Germany in the future have to prepare themselves for visitors with
completely new desires and expectations. Some touristic service providers already have adapted their services to new clients - as for example with Chinese menus, Russian-speaking employees or special autobahn packages for Chinese tourists who have fun
at speeding.

But the greatest challenge will be to attract tourists into the country for more than one or two days. So far the round trip "Europe in 10 days" is standard - an offer where visitors from Peking or Delhi most of the time don't see any more than the Brandenburg Gate and the Castle of Neuschwanstein.
